This article explains how to enable Bluetooth mode, change the Bluetooth mode to Source or Sink, and connect the C 389 / C 399 as a Bluetooth Source or Sink device.
Note: When you install the optional MDC2 BluOS-D upgrade module in the C 389 / C 399, the Bluetooth Mode option in the MAIN MENU > Settings is disabled. In this scenario, use the BluOS Controller App, and –
To initiate Bluetooth setup for C 389 / C 399 when the optional MDC2 BluOS-D upgrade module is NOT installed, perform the following procedure:
Prerequisite
Connect the Bluetooth antenna to the Bluetooth Antenna terminal on the rear panel of the C 389 / C 399.
Procedure
Bluetooth Mode for C 389 / C 399 functions as Sink or Source.
- Sink: The C 389 / C 399 functions as a receiver for audio streaming from a Bluetooth transmitter.
- Source: The C 389 / C 399 functions as a transmitter for audio streaming to a Bluetooth receiver.
You can use these buttons on the C 389 / C 399 to navigate across screens and perform the steps in the following sections.

Enable Bluetooth
Follow these steps to enable Bluetooth:
- While accessing the current Source screen, press the ˅ button to display the MAIN MENU options.
- Toggle ˂ or ˃ till the Source Setup screen appears.
- Press the ˅ button to display the sources.
- Toggle ˂ or ˃ to till the Bluetooth screen appears.
- Press the ˅ button, and the Bluetooth – Enable Source screen appears.
- Press the ˅ button and toggle ˂ or ˃ to set the display to Enable Source – Yes.
- Press ˄ multiple times to exit the Source Setup menu and go back to the Source screen you were accessing before Step 1.
Change BT work mode
Follow these steps to change the Bluetooth Mode to Source or Sink:
- While accessing the current Source screen, press the ˅ button to display the MAIN MENU options.
- Toggle ˂ or ˃ till the Settings option is displayed.
- Press the ˅ button to display the Settings menu.
- Toggle ˂ or ˃ till the Bluetooth Mode option is displayed.

Press the ˅ button, and the BLUETOOTH MODE – Sink or BLUETOOTH MODE – Source screen appears.
- Toggle ˂ or ˃, to change the BLUETOOTH MODE to preferred mode: Source or Sink.
- Press ˄ multiple times to exit the Settings menu and go back to the Source screen you accessed before Step 1.
Sink Mode
Follow these steps to Connect/Disconnect C 389 / C 399 (sink mode) to other Bluetooth transmitters:
Connect
- Set the BLUETOOTH MODE to Sink.
- On your iOS/Android device, navigate to Settings > Bluetooth.
- Scan for Bluetooth devices.
- Select NAD 389 / C 399’s unique device ID (example – C399 BT
- Pair or connect the iOS/Android device with C 389 / C 399.
Upon successful pairing, the front panel display of C 389 / C 399 indicates the device ID of the connected iOS/Android device.
Disconnect
- Using the connected iOS or Android device, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
- Under Paired devices / My devices, tap Unpair, or Forget this device.
Source Mode
Follow these steps to Connect/Disconnect C 389 / C 399 (source mode) to other Bluetooth receivers (headphone):
Connect
- Set the BLUETOOTH MODE to Source.

Press the [ENTER] button to select the SOURCE SETUP option. The BT SOURCE SETUP – Disconnected screen is displayed.
- Press the [ENTER] button to select the INQUIRE option. The BT SOURCE SETUP – Inquiring... screen is displayed as the C 389 / C 399 searches for available Bluetooth receivers.

Toggle ˂ or ˃ to select through available Bluetooth receivers.
- Press [ENTER] to select and connect to the required Bluetooth receiver. The BT SOURCE SETUP – DEVICE ID – Connected screen is displayed.
- Press ˄ multiple times to exit the menu and go back to the Source screen you accessed before Step 1.
- Toggle between the < SOURCE > buttons on the C 389 / C 399’s front panel to select the source media you require to transmit.
Note: Bluetooth and Headphone icon in the front display of C 389 / C 399 indicates the Bluetooth Source mode is enabled.
Disconnect
To disconnect the Bluetooth Source mode, on the BT SOURCE SETUP – DEVICE ID – Connected screen, press [ENTER].
Note:
When the MDC2 BluOS-D module is not installed, and Auto Sense (MAIN MENU > Source Setup) is enabled/disabled, the C 389 / C 399 enters the Network Standby mode when there is no user interface or active source input for 20 minutes.
To disable the Network Standby mode, perform any of the following tasks:
- Press the Standby button (C 389 / C 399 front panel),
- Press the OFF button (SR9 remote control),
- Play any track from the Bluetooth-connected Source.
