One common inquiry we often receive involves running HDMI to your TV and then Optical/digital signal back to your receiver or DAC, resulting in no audio.
The primary reason for this issue typically does not stem from your TV or the NAD component you are attempting to connect. Rather, it lies within HDMI itself—a closed, copy-protected audio/video interface.
Your TV typically does not separate the HDMI-delivered audio from the video and then pass the audio to your NAD Receiver. This limitation is due to the HDMI copyright protection.
If you need audio over HDMI, you will require a receiver with HDMI pass-through capabilities or one capable of outputting audio as an analog signal rather than digital. Alternatively, you could connect the optical jack from the source device (such as a Blu-ray® Disc Player, DVD player, cable, or satellite box) directly to the receiver or stereo system to obtain the sound.
