Overview of the HTRM2
The NAD HTRM 2 is ready to operate the M33 right out of the box, but it is essentially eight remotes in one. Each of the 8 DEVICE SELECTOR keys at the top of the handset can call up a new "page" of remote control codes to be transmitted by the remaining keys. You can "teach" codes from any infrared remote-controlled component, regardless of brand, to any or all of these.
Typically, you would teach the codes from your BD player to the [BD] DEVICE SELECTOR “page,” your television’s codes to the [TV] “page,” and so on, but there is no required scheme. You can load any commands to any key on any page. Learn more about copying codes from other remotes.
The HTRM 2 comes pre-programmed with a full complement of M33 commands on its [AMP] DEVICE SELECTOR page, as well as library commands to operate most NAD-brand BD, CD, or DAC components on the corresponding DEVICE SELECTOR “pages.” These default commands are permanent: Even if you teach the HTRM 2 new commands, the underlying library commands remain and can be easily recalled if you add an NAD component to your system later. Learn more about how to delete commands on the HTRM 2 remote.
Getting Familiar with the HTRM 2
The HTRM 2 is divided into two main sections.
Device Selector Key: The top section has eight DEVICE SELECTOR keys—[AMP], [MP], [TV], and so on—which set the handset’s remaining keys to a “page” of commands to control a particular component. A DEVICE SELECTOR key determines only what component the HTRM 2 will command; it does not perform any function on the component.
Function Key: All the remaining keys are function keys that can “learn” control codes from virtually any infrared remote controller, allowing you to teach the codes of your equipment, regardless of brand, to the HTRM 2.
However, the HTRM 2 comes pre-programmed to operate the M33. All the function keys on the [AMP] Device Selector "page" are set to perform M33 functions. Additionally, the HTRM 2 can control various other NAD components from its [CD], [BD], [DAC], and [CUSTOM] pages.
It is important to note that some HTRM 2 keys have different functions depending on the selected DEVICE SELECTOR "page."
LEARN LED
Learn LED is located between HTRM 2's ON and OFF buttons. Green, red, and amber indicate the remote's different status.

*a IMPORTANT:
- There are up to 9 sources with discrete IR codes, mapped to the HTRM 2 input selector buttons 1 – 9.
-
If optional MDC modules, such as the MDC USB DSD or MDC HDM 2, are installed, some Sources can be deactivated to accommodate the new Sources from these modules. Refer to our Help Center article on how to disable sources.
-
The table below illustrates input button allocation when an optional MDC module, such as the MDC HDM 2, is installed. If LINE IN and PHONO are disabled (HIDE SOURCE), their Source allocations are taken over by the next default Sources. With LINE IN and PHONO deactivated, the next Sources move up:
-
IN 6 becomes allocated for BALANCED IN,
-
IN 7 for BluOS,
-
IN 8 for HDMI 1,and
-
IN 9 for HDMI 2.
