Want to know which speakers you can safely connect with NAD Amplifiers/Receivers without blowing the speaker cones? Here is what you can do to check compatibility:
NAD Amplifier/Receiver ratings
Search your NAD product (current lineup) on the NAD website and download the related Manual or Data Sheet under the DOWNLOADS tab.
Consider the Wattage and recommended speaker impedance available in the Specifications section of the Product Manual or Data Sheet.
The NAD Amplifier/Receivers specifications are based on the Full Disclosure Power rating.
Speaker ratings
The Input Power (Watts/W) and Impedance (Ohms/ Ω) rating of speakers are mentioned on the rear side of most speakers. If not, please check the Data Sheet or Product Manual of the speaker.
PRO-TIP
4Ω for 40-200W means this speaker has a 4Ω resistor and can handle an amplifier ranging from 40 to 200 watts of power.
If the amplifier can only provide 30W, then there is not enough current or voltage to drive the speakers and vibrate the speaker cones. Alternatively, if the amplifier provides 250W, the excess power would damage the cones consequently "blowing" the speaker.
Notes
- All NAD amplifiers/receivers are rated for a minimum speaker impedance of 4 Ohms.
- Any speakers rated with a lower impedance should not be used as this can cause the amplifier's protection circuitry to trip (Protection Mode – Red status light on Power button).
